And I suspect Canada is like the UK, where politicians salaries include amounts for paying assistants and so on so they seem higher than they really are. They also maintain two homes and work crazy long hours. No one here goes into politics for the money. I sat opposite Madame Chretien in the Toronto Airport recently. Jean went off with handlers but kissed her before she came and sat in the regular waiting area.
