This date is one that neither Andrea nor I are likely to forget. That evening I had arrived home from a week away on business. And, even though this was posted a day later, was how my evening went. Andrea posted more details of the story in posts later in the month.
In between trips to the hospital, Andrea and I discussed a post on the Bible verses that had helped us through the initial few hours/days. In the long run, that didn’t happen for a few reasons. We were too busy trying to catch up financially. All the driving and waiting wore us out. It was birthday season in the house (the oldest 3 have theirs in a period of 22 days). We were overwhelmed by his recovery and adjusting to new things in the schedule. We were redistributing the chore load around the house.
Andrea & I discussed the anniversary this week. I wanted to pause for a moment to reflect on the past year. And I couldn’t think of a better way of doing that than to complete that post we never got to. From my living room to the site of the accident was 5 minutes at most and that included stopping to put on coat, hat and footwear (it was close to freezing temperature out). But it seemed like hours before the ambulance had Addison on his way to the hospital.
I think everyone will understand when I say that its difficult to keep ones head while waiting in a situation like that. In part, nearly 10 years experience in a volunteer fire department had taught me how important it was to remain calm. But it wasn’t the training that enabled me to be so. Sometime during the summer, Andrea had made a real ebay find and bought me 5 used Watchman Nee books. The first one of
those that I read was Sit, Walk, Stand (Canadian link). It is a very small book, about 70 pages. While reading it, the ‘Sit’ portion of the book reminded me of the first of the verses below. Shortly after that, I saw it’s correlation with the other passage. And it was through this and these verses that I was able to ‘rest’.
But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days. – Dan 12:13
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (1) For we which have believed do enter into rest (3a) If they shall enter into my rest. (5b) Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein (6a) There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. (9) For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. (10) – Heb 4
(oh look, Andrea wrote her own perspective at atypicalife.)
