Thanks Christine for asking me to do this. You can see how Christine answered the questions below here.
Before I go ahead with the meme, I have a few notes I want to post:
- Thanks to the person(s) which purchased from Amazon using the link in my sidebar.
- I owe don & tracy 5 questions from the meme below. I haven’t forgotten, but I won’t be getting to that tonight.
- Some of these questions remind me more of the stint I did teaching at college than they do of homeschooling.
So I answered out of that experience.
1. I am a good teacher because…
This is one of those questions I never thought of asking my students while I had the chance. I know that I was a favourite college instructor for some of them. Since I have a number of
flawsqualities that didn’t go well in that environment, I’ve always believed that the most likely reason was that I cared more about the students than I did about the college.
2. If I weren’t a teacher I would be a…
Well, now I’m a programmer
. If I could start out fresh and choose a career, it would probably be an artist.
3. My teaching style is…
Setting an example and hoping it sticks.
4. My classroom is…
What’s that?
5. My lesson plans are…
Officially, I had very thorough lesson plans. In reality I mostly conducted classes using a few notes. It wasn’t unusual for me to start the class off the first item in the notes and carry through the 2 hours without looking at them again.
6. One of my teaching goals…
When I was doing it, I never really gave this much thought. I was more concerned with what the students’ goals were.
7. The toughest part of teaching is…
Losing contact with your students. Except for a handful, the only contact info that my student had for me was college related. I’ve only talked to one of my students in the last year.
8. The thing I love about teaching is…
Seeing people learn.
9. A common misconception about teaching is…
That the student is an object of it.
10. The most important thing I’ve learned since I started teaching is…
Read my archives, I think I’ve talked that through pretty thoroughly there.
I know what you mean about number 7. I had some good students that I sometimes wonder where they are. One is the producer of a BBC radio program we listen to, which I know because she has an uncommon name and is in the credits. But that’s about it.
I wonder if things like Facebook will change this, though I don’t know if I’d want to be privy to every discussion they have, particularly immediately after graduation.
If I’d had the foresight to see that that would happen, I probably would have tried to pick up some contact info.
(I don’t think I’ve ever gone to facebook. :/ )
Harumph. I tagged you first. Okay, no hard feelings.
