Changing the look

I’m changing the look of the blog. I’ll update this entry when I’ve finalized the template.

Update:

Other than tinkering I think I’m done for the night. If you are reading this via RSS, stop by and let me know what you think. This is my first time at starting pretty much from scratch and building a theme for WordPress. I’ve done all the work on this except Andrea gave me a break for about an hour this evening by finishing up the banner image. The work in GIMP was quite a bit more complex that I did with the Christmas theme and much more time consuming.

When I did the Atypical Christmas, I also wrote the tutorial on how I created the banner image. If you are interested in me putting together a tutorial on the image work, leave a comment or send me an email. Whether or not I have time to right away, I’d also like to do a tutorial on modifying WordPress themes (less on styling and more on the WP side of it). In this one, I rewrote the WordPress loop.

Delurking. Letting you know I’m still around and reading! You are always so good at commenting and I stink. Course Rhia’s surgery and three kids 6 and under keep me busy – atleast I still read!

This looks really nice Ron! Dang, I got to get proficient in wordpress and do the switch. Just the lack of spam alone will make life simpler. Plus, it’ll force a long overdue makeover.

Anyway, nice look. Maybe I can talk Ken in to doing one of your tutorials and doing all of the conversion work…..yeah.
I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to do my technological bidding. Then we’ll have an empire!

Looks pretty good – minor issues with alignment of some fields – like this comment box for example, being hard up against the left edge of the notepad. Think the cream menu background looks a bit harsh against the overall look, but well impressed at how it handles browser resizing.

    :)

Note – all of this because you asked for comments, I’ve never started with writing a template from scratch yet, so I’m in awe of someone who would do it!

  4. I love it! The sidebar as post-it notes is especially clever.

    Looks good Ron.

  6. Jax says:

ooh, and no sooner said than fixed – your search box is doing the same though ;)

Looks great! I love how each new day is on a different note pad.

I am starting to homeschool/unschool my girls. I am finding Tennessee homeschool laws to be really restrictive as far as curriculum goes. Any ideas? Also my 5 year old is really getting the hang of phonics. Do you have something you are using to help start a reader? Thanks for your help.

Kay Brooks maintains an extensive site with lots of info specific to TN. Her blog is here

You can contact her through that.

    Instantly appealing, I’d say.

I like your new look! I’ve enjoyed tinkering with my template as well. It’s a lot easier than I thought but I’d still like to learn more.

Love the new look! I use Firefox’s Sage extension as an RSS reader, and often have problems both this and your other blog even updating on there. Maybe I need to get a different extension.

Having trouble getting your RSS feed. I want to be able to know when your great site is updated! Can you email me privately or leave a comment on my blog? Thanks!
