Hello 2008

This morning I received an email from our lawyer that said he had received a copy of all of the papers necessary to draw up the documents for the sale of the green house. Yesterday we finished signing off agreements on the outstanding conditions for a purchase-sale agreement. I won’t get to much into the details for 2 reasons. First, I know Andrea wants to talk about it. Second, we are both somewhat waiting for the second shoe to fall. So, we are waiting for the money to be in the bank, so to speak, before doing too much talking.

Even though that sounds somewhat tentative, at 51 weeks to go, 2008 is looking like it could be a vast improvement over 2007. And we know already that the year is going to have some challenges and hurdles for us. One of those is our renovation plans. The last few weeks of cold weather have made it clear that the first priorities renovation wise will have to be addressing a handful of high heat loss areas. We won’t be able to get to all of the heat loss areas in one year (there are 38 exterior doors & windows many of which are original). We’ll just start at the worst place and when that’s done move onto the next one. Before we start at that, I plan on taking a month off from that sort of thing to ‘recharge my batteries’.

  1. Congratulations on the pending sale! I tend not too decide what to do with money until it is in my account too. Spending before you have the money to spend is why so many people get in over their heads with debt they cannot afford.

Thanks. In mentioning spending the money I was thinking along the lines that whatever paperwork might be done, the deal won’t really be done until the money is in the account.

Ownign one house instead of two. A big relief for 2008. Hope it goes through quickly!

Good luck getting the paperwork through, I know what you mean about wanting to wait until it’s really a done deal, there are always unexpected snags.

38?!! We have 8 windows (one is huge but…), a door, and a door to the garage, which helps cut down the cold since it’s the NW corner. I bet your original windows are better than the windows we have, they were replacements, not very well done, and crappy windows at that. Don and I both think the windows in our first house were better than these, solid and good quality, and they were 80 years old.

kim – definitely a big relief.

christine – yes, 38. There were only 2 places on the main floor of the house that we could put the pellet stove without venting to through the roof because we needed 4 feet of clearance from doors and windows. Some of the windows have been replaced with bargain windows. The area of the house that I need to address first is a room that has all relatively new (but cheap) windows and door.
